The photographic journey you didn’t even know your were on
Back in 2012 my Canon DSLR was only a few months old, and High Dynamic Range (HDR) imagery was a trend taking the post-processing world by storm. As with many trends, it initially when too far in one direction … garish, before finding that happy middle ground. I, like so many others, took their first steps and went way too far, as you can see by this color HDR image. In the four-plus-years that have passed since I took this image, I’ve moved from HDR, to standard color processing, and now to black and white. As I’m traveling on my photographic journey, I can see by looking in the rear-view-mirror where I’ve been — including the poorly planned HDR detour, and I know where I’m at when it comes to black and white images, but I don’t know where I’m going. And therein lies the excitement of photography. Keep on shooting and enjoy the journey.
For now, this is the path I'm on (above B/W), but what will I think about this in 2020?
Back in 2012 I thought this was pretty cool. But in the rear-view-mirror ... the kindest thing I can say is that it's just not my cup of tea.
